Strolling around the 18th-century port is like stepping back in time, which is why it has made appearances in period pieces Poldark, Alice in Wonderland and Hornblower.

Unlike many places in Cornwall, Charlestown is still relatively unspoilt, so if you want a real taste of Cornwall’s history, book a holiday home here and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. As well as the quaint harbour, there are rugged beaches and top restaurants nearby and it’s a great base to explore the nearby Eden Project before returning to a cosy fireside back at your Charlestown cottage.
